Stephen R. Steinbrink

Stephen R. Steinbrink served as Acting Comptroller between the departure of Robert L. Clarke, the 26thComptroller of the Currency and the arrival of Eugene A. Ludwig, who became the 27thComptroller of the Currency.

Mr. Steinbrink joined the OCC in Kansas City in 1967 and was commissioned as a national bank examiner in 1970. After ten years of examining banks in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri, he became Deputy Regional Administrator for the Southwest Region. In 1983, he was appointed Director for Bank Supervision and he was named Deputy Comptroller for Multinational Banking in March of 1990. In July, 1991 Mr. Steinbrink became Senior Deputy Comptroller for Bank Supervision Operations.

During his 29-year career with the OCC, Mr. Steinbrink faced with the Texas banking crisis of the 1980's and its widespread consequences. He also worked to strengthen morale among bank examiners and draft rules for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Act of 1991.

Mr. Steinbrink was born December 13, 1944 in Falls City, Nebraska and earned a degree in business from the University of Nebraska in 1967.
